Fairleigh
Dickinson University Picked Sixth in NEC Women's Volleyball Pre-Season
Poll
HACKENSACK,
NEW JERSEY -- According to a poll of league head coaches, the
Fairleigh Dickinson University women's volleyball team was predicted
to finish sixth in Northeast Conference competition.
UMBC,
who claimed the 2000 regular season NEC title, were picked as the
preseason favorite to win the 2001 NEC Women's Volleyball Championships.
Although UMBC finished the regular season undefeated, they stumbled
in the NEC title match to defending champion Robert Morris, picked
to finish second in 2001.
The teams
that finish in the top six at the end of regular season will advance
to the 2001 NEC Volleyball Championships, which will be hosted by
Wagner College on November 17-18, 2001. The winner of the NEC Tournament
will receive an automatic-bid to the 2001 NCAA Championships.
The Fairleigh
Dickinson Knights will look for their 11th straight NEC Tournament
berth in 2001, guiding by Fairleigh Dickinson Hall of Famer, head
coach Stacey Recanati. Returning for Recanati is the 2000
NEC leader in digs per game (4.18) and four-year player Trisha
Nunnenkamp (Merrick, NY/Calhoun). In 2000 she led the team in
digs for the third consecutive time and finished 15th in NCAA Division
I.
After
a season opener at St. Peter's on Wednesday, September 5th at 7:00pm,
the Knights participate in the St. John's Classic on Friday, September
7th and Saturday, September 8th. They open at home in late September,
hosting Manhattan College on Friday the 28th at 7:00pm. NEC competition
begins with a home match on October 6th against Wagner.
