Fairleigh
Dickinson Volleyball Splits at Big Red Invitational
Knights take Stony Brook 3-2, After Falling to
Cornell 3-0.
ITHACA,
N.Y. – The
Fairleigh Dickinson University volleyball team (2-4) split a pair of
matches this afternoon at the Big Red Invitational hosted by Cornell
University. The Knights
fell 3-0 at the hands of host Cornell (3-3) in their first match,
but rebounded to defeat Stony Brook 3-2 in an exciting come from
behind effort.
After
going up 2-0 in the second match against Stony Brook, the Sea Wolves
won the next two games to knot the match at 2-2.
Fairleigh Dickinson trailed 13-7 in game five and rallied for a
17-15 win to take the contest.
Three Knights posted double-digits in kills.
Junior middle hitter Allison Picker (Warren, N.J.) led
the way with 13 kills and made five block assists.
Sophomore outside hitter Sharon Becker (Dumont, N.J.)
and freshman middle hitter Carli Kaminska (Clarence Center, N.Y.)
each posted double-doubles with Becker collecting 10 kills
and 19 digs, while Kaminska recorded 10 kills, 17 digs and
also added seven block assists and four service aces.
Senior setter Randi Kluemper (Allentown, Pa.) handed
out 39 assists in the match and picked up 19 digs.
In
the opener the Knights dropped the first game 30-20 and the second
game 30-22. They made a
run at forcing a fourth game, but fell short 30-27 in game three.
Sophomore middle hitter Kristen Risberg (Port Jefferson)
paced the Knights' attack with nine kills while committing just
one error in 17 chances. Risberg
also added four block assists.
Randi Kluemper was one of four Knights to post five
kills and put up 18 assists. Senior
outside hitter Trisha Nunnenkamp (Merrick, N.Y.) also knocked
down five kills, picked up 16 digs and had four block assists.
The
Knights play two more matches at the Big Red Invitational tomorrow
when they take on Manhattan at 9:00 a.m. and NEC foe St. Francis
(Pa.) at 3:00 p.m.
