Knight’s Odenwaelder Earns League-Leading
Fourth NEC Rookie Honor

FDU freshman posts back-to-back double-doubles on week

SOMERSET, NJKay Odenwaelder (Goshen, Conn./Holy Cross), a Fairleigh Dickinson freshman and 5-11 swing, earned her league-leading fourth Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week award for the last week of the regular season.  The Knights have claimed a league-best five of the 14 Rookie of the Week honors this season with freshman center Kanesha Wright (Somerdale, NJ/Sterling) earning the accolade the second week of February.

Odenwaelder takes home the award after averaging 23.5 points, 10.5 rebounds and 2.0 steals last week, while tallying her team leading fourth and fifth double-doubles of the year. In a loss to first place St. Francis (PA) (68-59), she posted 16 points, 10 rebounds, three steals and one assist. In an overtime setback to Robert Morris (106-99), Odenwalder scored a career-high 31 points (10-18 FG, 10-12 FT) and grabbed a game-high 11 rebounds, while also adding two assists and a steal on the day. Odenwaelder leads the Knights in rebounding at 6.8 per game, a mark which is tops among all rookies in the conference and 10th overall.  She is second on the team in scoring (9.3 ppg).

The Knights return to the NEC Tournament for the third straight year.  As the #7 seed they face the #2 seeded Long Island Blackbirds in the first round on Saturday, March 2nd at 5:30pm. The 2001-2002 post-season awards will be announced on Friday, March 1st at the pre-tournament banquet.
