Knights Edge St. Francis (PA), 62-59

Hackensack, New Jersey­The Fairleigh Dickinson Knights opened with a 15-7 run, including eight points from Melanie Prol (Sparta, NJ/Sparta) and owned a lead until two consecutive three-point baskets put the St. Francis (PA) Red Flash up by one (33-32) going into halftime.

FDU's Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) connected on a three-pointer to open the second session to put the Knights ahead. With a 10-point lead (51-41) with 9:24 to go in the game, the Knights offense was shutdown until 3:43 as the Red Flash went on a 12-0 streak to take a two-point lead (53-51). Seven lead changes occurred over the next three minutes, with each team scored going up by one point on each possession. With 0:20 left Marchanka connected on her fourth three-pointer to put the Knights up by two, 61-59. The Red Flash fired an off-target three-pointer with 8 seconds remaining, fouling FDU after the rebound. Tommica Woods (Fairfax, VA/Fairfax) connected on the first end of her two shots to give the Knights the three-point cushion and the win, 62-59.

Leading all scorers was FDU's Karen Tiedemann (Fallston, MD/Fallston), with 22 points on 8-16 shooting in a complete 40 minutes. Betsy Blom (Forest Hill, MD/C. Milton Wright) tied her career-high with 13 rebounds and added four blocks, also for a career-high. Prol tallied her fifth double-double of the season and second in a row with 10 points and 12 rebounds. Marchanka barely missed a double-double herself, finishing with 17 points and nine assists. Carlin Chesick (Bloomingdale, IL/Lake Park) registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 boards, adding four blocks in 38 minutes. Beth Barnabei (Weirton, WV/Weir) was the only other Red Flash to score in double digits, tallying a team-high 14 points.

The St. Francis (PA) Red Flash fall to 4-14 on the season, 3-6 in the NEC. FDU improves to 6-12 overall, 5-4 in the NEC.
