FDU Falls to Wagner, 66-49

Hackensack, NJ--The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team dropped a 66-49 decision to the Wagner Seahawks in a Northeast Conference match-up. Although the Knights outscored the Seahawks in the second half, they were not able to overcome an early deficit as a 22-point halftime Wagner lead was strecthed to as many as 31, 58-27, with 9:26 to go in the game as the buzzer sounded.

Both teams stryggled from the field. Wagner shot 37% (25-67) for the game compared to FDU's 30% (18-60). Combined the teams shot 2 -of-20 from downtown.

Leading all scorers was Wagner's Toni Roker (Baldwin, NY/Christ the King) with 18 points. She added nine rebounds in 28 minutes. Kin Mcghee (York, Pa./Central York) tallied the first double-double of her career with 10 points and a team high 11 rebounds, adding five steals. Jill Watral (Bloomfield NJ./Bloomfield) added 12 points for the Seahawks.

Senior Melanie Prol (Sparta NJ/Sparta) tallied her third double-double of the season for the Knights, with 12 points and 12 rebounds. Karen Tiedemann (Fallston, MD/Fallston) scored 10 points, adding six rebounds and three assists for FDU. In 17 minutes, Nevin Caple (Baltimore, MD/Baltimore Lutheran) recorded eight points, six boards and four first-half blocks.

The Wagner Seahawks improved to 4-7 on the season, 1-1 in the NEC. FDU falls to 2-9, 1-1 in the NEC.
