FIRST WIN COMES ON THE ROAD

The Knights defeated Lafayette, 57-52 in the Kirby Center in Easton, PA. The Leopards came off wins over NEC teams Sacred Heart and St. Francis (NY) and were looking to make FDU its third straight victim. Focusing on defense and using a full-court press, the Knights held a lead until late in the first half.

A big lead of seven, 15-8, at the 7:33 mark was chipped away as the Leopards went on a 10-2 run to first tie and then take a 19-17 lead. Lafayette went into halftime with a 22-21 margin, having missed eight of nine shots taken in the last three minutes of the half. All looked doomed as FDU remained scoreless as the Leopards opened the second half with a 10-0 streak for what would be their big lead of 11 points, 32-21.

The Knights responded with 11 straight points of their own to knot the game at 32 with 11:56 remaining. At the 3:34 mark, FDU found themselves with a nine-point lead, 50-41, when Tommica Woods--whose previous six points had all been at the free throw line--connected from downtown. As FDU tried to hold on, Lafayette, who missed all 12 previous attempts from downtown, finally connected on two treys to get within two, 50-52, with one minute to go. FDU held possession and fired two missed shots, only to get the rebounds. Lafayetteıs best chance was to foul and with 0:23 left they made what seemed like a wise decision, to foul the rookie who had been 1-2 from the line on the night. With nerves of steel, Jennifer Kozlowski sinks both and provides the Knights with the needed cushion to get their first win.

Three Knights scored in double-digits as Melanie Prol recorded her first double-double of the season and seventh of her career. Her 16 points (7-8 from the field, 2-2 FT) were scored in a career-high 39 minutes. Karen Tiedemann tallied a season-high 15 points and six boards while freshman Jennifer Kozlowski had 10 points and added five assists for the Knights. The five seniors combined for 41 of 57 points and all but two of the teamıs 36 rebounds
