Central Connecticut Upsets Fairleigh Dickinson, 64-53
Nevin Caple leads team with 14 points and seven boards in losing effort

New Britain, Conn. – The Fairleigh Dickinson (9-6, 4-2 NEC) women's basketball team was upset by Central Connecticut (2-13, 2-4 NEC) 64-53.

The Blue Devils opened with four straight points to open and FDU would have just two leads before CCSU took the lead back for good.  At 15:29, the Knights took a 7-6 lead on a pair of Nevin Caple (Baltimore, MD) free throws at15:29.

After a 10-10 deadlock, Central Connecticut  used a 10-0 run to balloon its lead, with 8:40 left before halftime and went into the lockerroom with a 31-20 advantage.

Fairleigh Dickinson opened the second half with layups from Caple and Kanesha Wright, cutting into the home team's lead, 31-24.  That would be the closest the Knights could manage as the Blue Devils boosted their lead back up into double-digits.

Caple led the Knights with 14 points, including a perfect 8-of-8 from the free throw line.  She added seven boards in 23 minutes.  Kay Odenwaelder (Goshen, Conn.) scored seven for FDU while Wright, Meaghan Allan (Millersville, MD) and Jen Kozlowski (Linwood, PA) each had six.

The Knights dug themselves into the deficit with poor shooting, going just 7-30 (23.9%) in the first half compared to the Blue Devils' 50% (14-28).  Although Fairleigh Dickinson committed a season-low 13 turnovers the team also shot a season-low 29.3% from the field for the game.  CCSU also held a 41-32 advantage on the boards.

The Knights take to the road to face Quinnipiac on Monday, January 21 at 2:00pm.
