Remain Undefeated in Rothman with 66-55 Win Over the Mount
HACKENSACK,
NJ - In the first game of the first-ever Northeast Conference women's
basketball doubleheader, the Fairleigh Dickinson (11-7, 6-3 NEC)
Knights completed their season sweep of the Mt. St. Mary's
Mountaineers (7-11, 4-5 NEC) with a 66-55 victory.
The game was
broadcast live on Cablevision from the Rothman Center and moves the
Knights to 7-0 at home this season. The
Mountaineers were first on board and had an eight-point lead, 24-16,
with 4:22 to go in the first half before the Knights closed the
session on a 10-3 run and getting within one point, 27-26. In
a strange twist of fate the Knights, who trailed the entire first
half, opened scoring in the second half to take their first lead
(28-27) and stayed on top for the remainder of the game. The
Mountaineers scored eight straight points from 13:27 to 12:00 to get
back within four, 43-39, but the Knights increased their lead once
again to double-digits Fairleigh
Dickinson out-shot the Mount 48.9% to 29.0% from the field on the
evening including 46.2% (6-13) from behind the arc compared to the
Mount's 21.4% (3-14). Jennifer
Kozlowski (Linwood, PA) led the Knights in scoring for the second time
this season with 21 points, including 6-of-6 from the free throw line
and 3-of-5 from behind the arc.
She added five assists and four rebounds.
Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) posted 20 for FDU, also
connecting on three treys and dishing out five assists in her fifth
full 40-minute game this season. Mt.
St. Mary's Beth Foster (Elm City, NC) led all scorers with 28 points
on 10-of-21 shooting from the field and 8-of-10 from the line.
The NEC-leading rebounder also grabbed a game-high 12 rebounds
for the only double-double of the game. Myriam Baccouche (Fairfax, VA)
and Taylor Long (Anchorage, AL) scored eight apiece for the Mount. The
Knights are back in action at the Rothman Center on Thursday, January
31st when they take on the Sacred Heart Pioneers for a 7:00
p.m. game. *
