Dickinson Holds Back Mt. St. Mary's, 87-82 Emmitsburg, MD – The Fairleigh Dickinson University (6-5, 1-1 NEC) women’s basketball team began the new year with an 87-82 win over host Mt. St. Mary's (4-7, 1-1 NEC) in a Northeast Conference match. Fairleigh Dickinson scored on their first possession and held the lead for all of the first half, stretching that margin to a game-high 12 (26-14) with 8:11 to go in the session. The Mount responded with nine straight points and the Knights found themselves without a commanding lead, going into halftime up one, 37-36. Mt. St. Mary's got their only lead of the game when they scored coming out of intermission, but the Knights took the lead for good with 19:14 remaining in the game, 39-38. The Mount remained uncomfortably close for the rest of the game with the Knights never leading by more than nine points in the second half. Twenty-nine combined points were scored by the two teams in the last 1:13 of the game, all but five from the free throw line. The Knights hit 13 free throws to close, including six from Meaghan Allan (Millersville, MD), who finished with a career-high 22 points playing all 40 minutes to lead the Knights. She was a perfect 8-of-8 from the charity stripe on the nights and 4-of-5 from behind the arc. As a team the Knights tied the program record for most free throws attempted in a game (38) and was just one short of tying the mark for free throws made in a game with 28. Fairleigh Dickinson's other Maryland native, Nevin Caple (Baltimore, MD), led the team with a career-high 13 rebounds, adding 14 points for her second double-double of the season. Lauryn Ruby (Landisville, PA) had a career-night with her first-ever double-double. She posted career-highs in 12 points, 12 rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) was the fourth Knight to score in double-digits with 12 points, also in a full 40 minutes. The Mount was led by Myriam Baccouche who had a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds. Adrienne Harris scored 15. The loss for the Mount was just the third home NEC loss suffered in the last three seasons. The Knights take home their first win in the Knott Arena since the 1996-97 season. The Knights remain in Maryland for an NEC contest at UMBC on Monday, January 7th. Tip-off is 7:00pm. *
