Fairleigh Dickinson Cruises Past  UMBC, 67-50
Natallia Marchanka's 29 points leads Knights to first-ever sweep of NEC Maryland teams

Baltimore, MD – Fairleigh Dickinson (7-5, 2-1 NEC) sophomore guard Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) scored a game-high 29 points as the Knights cruised past UMBC (4-8, 0-3 NEC) 67-50 Monday evening at the UMBC RAC Arena.  The win completes the Knights' two-game sweep of the NEC Maryland teams for the first time in three tries.

Marchanka, who entered the games as the leading scorer in the NEC (18.6ppg) connected on 7-of-13 field goal attempts and was 12-of-16 from the foul line, tying the program record for free throws attempted.  She also converted 3-of-5 from three-point range and added six assists and five rebounds in 39 minutes of action.

UMBC ran out to a 12-6 lead at 15:06 in the first half but the Knights scored seven straight points over the next minute and a half on the way to on a 22-4 run to grab a 28-16 advantage.  FDU settled for a 35-25 halftime margin.

The Retrievers would get as close as seven points (37-30) with 18:09 remaining in the contest on a pair of free throws by senior Yinka Bada.  However, Fairleigh Dickinson went on a 9-0 run at that point to push the lead to 16 (46-30) with 13:23 remaining.  Marchanka capped the run with her first of three second-half treys.  The Knights would not allow UMBC to come within single digits the rest of the way.

Fairleigh Dickinson sot 47% (18-38) from the field compared to just 30% (18-59) for UMBC.  The Knights also connected on 26-36 free throws (72.2%) while UMBC was 12-16 (75.0%).

Freshman forward Kay Odenwaelder (Goshen, CT) added 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds for the Knights.  UMBC was led by freshman Matea Pender and junior Millette Green who each scored 10 points.

The Knights return to action on Saturday, January 12th when they host NEC rival St. Francis (NY) for a 4:30 pm to be broadcast on WFDU 89.1.
