Marchanka scores 33 points for the Knights

HACKENSACK, NJ –The Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s basketball team overcame a first half plagued by turnovers to defeat the Nor’Easter Storm, 74-65 in a women’s basketball exhibition at the Rothman Center.

The Knights fell into an early deficit, missing their first six shots of the game before getting on board at 15:26.  Nor’Easter fared no better as both teams shot under 40% and committed 25 combined turnovers before going into halftime with a 29-29 tie.

Fairleigh Dickinson scored first in the second half and held the lead for all but 14 seconds of the session until 3:36 remained in the game.  Nor’Easter took advantage of five straight missed shots by the Knights to take a 65-62 lead, but could not score again as the Knights’ proceeded to come back and score the last 12 points of the game to take the 74-65 win.

The Knights’ Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) picked up right where she left off last year in the season-ending NEC Tournament loss to Quinnipiac, with a game-high 33 points.  She added four assists, six steals and one block to her 12-of-24 shooting, including five three pointers.

Kay Odenwaelder (Goshen, CT/Holy Cross) came on strong in the second half for Fairleigh Dickinson, scoring 14 of her 18 points after intermission.  She grabbed six rebounds and posted three assists in 21 minutes.  Vanessa Gercke (Westmont, NJ/Haddon Township) led the Knights with eight boards.

Nor’Easter Storm’s Lucia Madajova posted the afternoon’s only double-double with 11 points and 17 rebounds.  Erica Keinst led the team with 18 points.
