Fairleigh Dickinson Women's Hoops Defeats Winthrop, 62-50
Knights' defense forces 23 turnovers.

Rock Hill, SC -- In the second game of the 2001 Venture Industries Winthrop Lady Eagles Classic, the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's basketball team (2-1) defeated host Winthrop(0-2), 62-50.

With 13:51 remaining in the first half and Fairleigh Dickinson down 11-7, the Knights went on a 12-0 run over the next four minutes to take the lead. Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) made the tying layup at 12:55 (11-11) and then followed with a three-pointer one minute later that would put the Knights up for good. Fairleigh Dickinson went into halftime with a 33-25 lead.

Marchanka began the Knights big run of the second half with a layup at 11:25 for the 46-35 margin and the beginning of a 14-5 streak. With seven more points from Marchanka and three of her game-high four steals, Fairleigh Dickinson found themselves with a 20 point, 60-40, lead with 4:26 to go in thegame.

Marchanka led all scorers with 23 points, adding four assists, four steals and four rebounds. Jennifer Kozlowski (Linwood, PA) tallied eight for the Knights while Meaghan Allan (Millersville, MD) and Lauryn Ruby (Landisville, PA) each had seven. Nevin Caple (Baltimore, MD) had a career-high tying and team-leading 10 rebounds.

The Lady Eagles' Stephanie Pannell dominated the post, scoring 16 points, grabbing a game-high 12 boards and posting three blocks.

The Knights return to the Winthrop Coliseum tomorrow to face Howard University at 3:00pm.

Natallia Marchanka led all scorers with 23 points in the Knights' 62-50 victory over Winthrop at the Winthrop Lady Eagles Classic.
