Knights Out Run Centenary (La.), 88-69
Kay Odenwaelder leads Knights with second double-double of season

Hackensack, NJ The Fairleigh Dickinson University (4-2) women’s basketball team broke away mid-way through the first half with an 8-0 run and never trailed by less than 11 in the second half, defeating the Centenary Ladies (4-3) 88-69 in the Rothman Center.   

The Centenary Ladies opened on a 9-4 run over the first 4:40 of the game with points from four different players.  Fairleigh Dickinson sophomore Natallia Marchanka (Rechitsa, Belarus) scored five straight points to tie the game and the Knights quickly commanded a lead, using eight straight points from 7:27 to 5:47 to go up 28-19.  The Knights went into halftime with a 37-27 margin and kept their double-digit lead throughout the second half with a big lead of 24 (61-37) with 12:18 remaining in the game.

The Knights out-shot the Ladies 53% to 39.2% and out-rebounded their opponent for just the second time this season, 52-37.  FDU's 88 points in the largest scoring output so far this season.

“It was good to see the younger players step up and do some good things,” said head coach Sandy Gordon Gaglioti.

Freshman Kay Odenwaelder (Goshen, Conn.), in just 19 minutes, tallied career- and game-highs of 20 points and 10 rebounds for her second double-double of the season.  She added two blocks, two steals, and two assists to her 8-of-12 shooting.  Three other Knights, and two other freshmen, had career-high points including freshman Erin Mills (Wilmington, DE) with 17, senior Lauryn Ruby (Landisville, PA) with 10 and freshman Kanesha Wright (Somerdale, NJ), who narrowly missed a double-double of her own, with career-highs of 10 points and nine rebounds in just 17 minutes.  Marchanka was the other Knight to score in double-digits finishing with 16 points, six assists and three steals.

Four Ladies scored in double-digits, three of which had a team-high 13 points.  Alexis Pettway (Rialto, CA), Takeo Gant (Shreveport, LA) and Lori Tanner (Knoxville, TN) each tallied 13 with Pettway and Van’esha Brabson (Corryton, TN) tying for a team-high seven boards apiece.  

The Knights return to action at Hartford on Saturday, December 8th for a 7:00pm game as the latter part of a men’s and women’s doubleheader.  The men tip-off at 2:00pm.

Kay Odenwaelder, the two-time NEC Rookie of the Week, broke her career highs with 20 points and 10 rebounds in just 19 minutes against the Centenary Ladies.
