FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
DEFEATS WAGNER, 2-1
Freshman
Aubrey McCullough scores sixth and seventh goals of season
TEANECK,
NJ –
With the help of two goals from freshman leading scorer Aubrey
McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), the Fairleigh
Dickinson University women’s soccer team (4-9, 3-5 NEC) defeated
Wagner College (2-13-1, 1-7 NEC) 2-1 at University Stadium.
McCullough
opened the scoring at 30:58 off a pass from Lissa Del Conte
(Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) with a close range kick past
Wagner goalkeeper Dana Honcaruk (Edison, NJ/J.P. Stevens).
She followed that with another goal twelve minutes later when Angela
Caruso (Lanoka Harbor, NJ/Lacey) launched a long pass into the box
to find McCullough and give the Knights a 2-0 lead going into
intermission. The two
goals on the afternoon were McCullough’s team-leading sixth
and seventh of the season.
Both
teams struggled in the second half to keep possessions and push toward
goal as the first twenty minutes of the session went without a shot.
The Knights’ comfortable two-goal lead was cut to one when
Wagner’s Jennifer Spadifino (Old Bridge, NJ/Old Bridge) scored
unassisted at 73:38. The
Seahawks threatened as time ran down but were not able to get in
another shot.
Fairleigh
Dickinson goalkeeper Megan McDonnell (Richmond Hill, NY/Cardozo)
made two saves in the win while the Seahawks’ Honcaruk stopped five
shots.
The
Knights travel to the University of Albany on Wednesday, October 24th
for a 2:00pm match.
