Two Knights Named to Women’s Soccer All-NEC Teams
Rookie Aubrey McCullough earns First Team Recognition

SOMERSET, NJ – The Northeast Conference released the 2001 women’s soccer post-season awards and two Fairleigh Dickinson athletes received recognition.  Freshman forward Aubrey McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) became the first Knight ever to earn First Team All-NEC honors while sophomore midfielder Kelly Geraghty (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) earned her second consecutive Second Team All-NEC award.

McCullough tallied nine of the Knights’ 19 goals on the year, including three of the five game-winning goals.  She earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors on October 22nd after scoring all of the Knights three goals in two game that week, including both in a 2-1 win over NEC foe Wagner.  McCullough continued her scoring streak through two more games and finished the season having scored a goal in five of the last seven matches. By the end of the season, McCullough worked her way into the league leaders in scoring (19 points – 9 g, 1 a), points per game (1.19) and goals per game (0.56).  Her marks set new Fairleigh Dickinson individual season player records in goals and points in a season.

Geraghty earned her second consecutive second team honor after being moved from forward in 2000 to midfielder in 2001.  She finished second on the team in points (11), goals (4) and assists (3).  Geraghty scored the Knights’ first game-winning goal in 2001 in a 3-0 shutout of Mt. St. Mary’s for the program’s first-ever NEC victory.

In only the program’s second year, the Knights finished the season with three more wins than last year and posted its best conference showing with three league victories.  As a team, Fairleigh Dickinson improved from giving up 62 goals (3.19 GAA) in 2000 to only allowing 32 goals (1.93 GAA) this year, which improved its scoring margin from –2.52 to -0.78 this season.  Of the Knights’ 11 losses this season, four came in overtime while two other losses came by one goal.
