Two
Knights Named to Women’s Soccer All-NEC Teams
Rookie Aubrey McCullough earns
First Team Recognition
SOMERSET,
NJ – The
Northeast Conference released the 2001 women’s soccer post-season
awards and two Fairleigh Dickinson athletes received recognition.
Freshman forward Aubrey McCullough (Forked River,
NJ/Monsignor Donovan) became the first Knight ever to earn First
Team All-NEC honors while sophomore midfielder Kelly Geraghty
(Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) earned her second consecutive Second Team
All-NEC award.
McCullough
tallied nine of
the Knights’ 19 goals on the year, including three of the five
game-winning goals. She
earned NEC Rookie of the Week honors on October 22nd after
scoring all of the Knights three goals in two game that week,
including both in a 2-1 win over NEC foe Wagner.
McCullough continued her scoring streak through two more games
and finished the season having scored a goal in five of the last seven
matches. By the end of the season, McCullough worked her way into the
league leaders in scoring (19 points – 9 g, 1 a), points per game
(1.19) and goals per game (0.56). Her marks set new Fairleigh Dickinson individual season
player records in goals and points in a season.
Geraghty
earned her second
consecutive second team honor after being moved from forward in 2000
to midfielder in 2001. She
finished second on the team in points (11), goals (4) and assists (3).
Geraghty scored the Knights’ first game-winning goal in 2001
in a 3-0 shutout of Mt. St. Mary’s for the program’s first-ever
NEC victory.
In
only the program’s second year, the Knights finished the season with
three more wins than last year and posted its best conference showing
with three league victories. As
a team, Fairleigh Dickinson improved from giving up 62 goals (3.19 GAA)
in 2000 to only allowing 32 goals (1.93 GAA) this year, which improved
its scoring margin from –2.52 to -0.78 this season.
Of the Knights’ 11 losses this season, four came in overtime
while two other losses came by one goal.
