FAIRLEIGH DICKINSON
DEFEATS ALBANY, 1-0
Aubrey McCullough scores
in third straight games as Knights win third in four games
ALBANY,
NY –
With the help of Aubrey McCullough’s (Forked River,
NJ/Monsignor Donovan) team-leading eighth goal of the season, the
Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s soccer team (5-9) defeated
the University at Albany (1-13) 1-0.
McCullough
tallied the lone score of the contest five minutes into the game when
she separated from several Albany defenders with a pass from Kelly
Geraghty (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) to breakaway that began at
midfield. The reigning
Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week has scored the Knights’ last
four goals including both in the 2-1 win over Wagner and the lone goal
in a loss to Quinnipiac last week.
McCullough has three of the team’s five game-winning
goals on the season.
“While
I’m pleased with our effort today, I think we played a scrappy
game,” says head coach Peter Gaglioti.
“But we did what we needed to do to win.”
Fairleigh
Dickinson goalkeeper Megan McDonnell (Richmond Hill, NY/Cardozo)
made nine saves to earn her second shutout on the season while the
Great Danes’ Beth Spinelli totaled 13 saves with one goal allowed.
The
Knights return to University Stadium for their last two games of the
season. They face
Binghamton on Friday, October 26th at 1pm and take on
Central Connecticut for their season finale on Sunday, October 28th
at 1pm.
