KNIGHTS WIN SECOND IN A ROW WITH 4-1 DEFEAT OF ST. PETER'S
Freshman Aubrey McCullough scores twice in first ten minutes.

HACKENSACK, NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University women’s soccer team (2-6) defeated St. Peter’s (0-8) 4-1 at University Stadium for the Knights’ second win in a row and first-ever two-game win streak in the two-year history of the program.

Freshman Aubrey McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) put the Knights on the board with a quick 2-0 lead with back-to-back goals in the eighth and ninth minutes. Fellow rookie Jillian D’Onofrio assisted on the first with a pass into the box to McCullough who took it in and sent a 10-yarder past the goalkeeper.  Junior Michelle Burkert (Colonia, NJ/Colonia) assisted on McCullough’s second and game-winning goal.

Ten minutes later at 19:41 Amber McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan), Aubrey’s older sister, scored her first goal of the season, unassisted as she beat Peahen defenders to take the ball in at close range. With just 54 seconds remaining in the first half, Stephanie Williams (Randolph, MA/Braintree) sailed a big boot into the box and D’Onofrio found the back of the net from 15-yards for the Knights last goal of the game.

In the second half the teams traded possessions until 81:41 when St. Peter’s Melissa Neglia (Staten Island, NY/St. John Villa) knocked one past Knight goalkeeper Megan McDonnell (Richmond Hill, NY/Cardozo).

“I am pleased with the effort on offense today and happy to be part of this accomplishment for our program,” said head coach Peter Gaglioti.  “I am looking forward to putting together longer win streaks in the future.”

St. Peter’s starting goalkeeper Sarah Cronin (San Anselmo, CA/Sir Francis Drake) played the first half, making three saves.  Candace Winder (Waldwick, NJ/Waldwick) made her first career appearance in goal, making seven saves for the Peahens in 45 minutes.  The Knights’ McDonnell made two saves.

The Knights travel to intrastate NEC school Monmouth on Friday, October 5th for a 3:00pm game.
