Fairleigh
Dickinson University Picked Tenth in NEC Women's Soccer Pre-Season
Poll
HACKENSACK, NEW JERSEY -- According to a poll of league head coaches,
the Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team was predicted
to finish tenth in Northeast Conference competition.
The Quinnipiac
Braves, who claimed a bid to the 2000 NCAA Tournament, were picked
as the preseason favorite to win the 2001 NEC Women's Soccer Championships.
Monmouth, who tied with Quinnipiac for the regular season title last
year, is predicted to pose the biggest threat to the Braves.
The teams that
finish in the top four at the end of regular season will advance to
the 2001 NEC Women's Soccer Championship, which will be hosted by
St. Francis (PA) University on November 2 & 4, 2001. The winner of
the NEC Tournament will receive an automatic-bid to the 2001 NCAA
Championships.
The Fairleigh Dickinson
Knights return 10 starters from last season's first-year varsity team
and they look past the predictions, eager to showcase their talent
to NEC and non-conference opponents alike. Second-year head coach
Peter Gaglioti has brought in a large recruiting class of eight talented
players.
After a season
opener at Seton Hall on Friday, August 31st at 1:00pm, the team travels
to Temple on Thursday, September 4th for a 4:00pm match. The Knights
will host Drexel for their home opener on Wednesday, September 12th
at 4:00pm. NEC competition begins with a trip to Pennsylvania to face
St. Francis University (Friday, September 14th) and Robert Morris
(Sunday, September 16th).
