Knights Takes Iona, 3-0 in Scrimmage
Freshman forward Aubrey McCullough scores two

HACKENSACK, NEW JERSEY -- The Fairleigh Dickinson University women's soccer team eased to a 3-0 scrimmage win over the Gaels from Iona College.

Freshman forward Aubrey McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan) scored nine minutes into the game when she battled between a defender and goalie for a ball and then easily took a rebound off the defender to the back of the net. Her second goal came 11 minutes later off a long pass. She took it in and went one-on-one with the goalie, finding the lower right side of the net past the keeper. Sophomore Kelly Geraghty (Elmont, NY/Sewanhaka) scored in the 65th minute on a pass from Lissa DelConte (Bayville, NJ/Central Regional) to give the Knights the 3-0 advantage and eventual win.

The Iona Gaels had their best chance midway through the first half when a shot that was out of reach of Knight goalkeep Megan McDonnell hit the cross bar. McDonnell needed to make just two saves to earn the shutout.

The Knights had 13 shots in the game, including nine shots on goal. McCullough took seven shots at the goal on the afternoon including one off a pass from her older sister, Knight sophomore Amber McCullough (Forked River, NJ/Monsignor Donovan).

After a season opener at Seton Hall on Friday, August 31st at 1:00pm, the team travels to Temple on Tuesday, September 4th for a 4:00pm match. The Knights will host Drexel for their home opener on Wednesday, September 12th at 4:00pm. NEC competition begins with a trip to Pennsylvania to face St. Francis University (Friday, September 14th) and Robert Morris (Sunday, September 16th).
