Liberty
Takes Two From Knights, 4-3 & 7-2
Jessie Potter rips three-run home run
in game one
LYNCHBURG,
VA
– The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team (2-2) dropped two
games to the Liberty Lady Flames (15-14) this afternoon, 4-3 and 7-2.
In
the first game, Liberty jumped out to a one-run lead in the bottom of the
first inning. The
score remained a 1-0 until the top of the third when the Knights took the
lead on a three-run home run by Jessi Potter (Fr., 3B, Oneonta, NY)
to left field, plating Kara Morris (Fr., OF, Mahwah, NJ) and Kimberly
Farhat (Fr., SS, Paramus, NJ) to take the 3-1 advantage.
Fairleigh Dickinson would hold the lead until the bottom of the
sixth when Liberty answered with its own three-run shot to give the Lady
Flames the lead for good.
Jennifer
Buehler (So., RHP, Oriskany, NY)
took the loss in relief moving to 1-1 on the season.
She surrendered three runs on two hits in 2 2/3 innings of work.
Jennifer Hurley (Fr., RHP, Asheboro, NC) picked up the win for Liberty and
moved to 8-8 on the season.
The
Knights took the first lead of the nightcap as Courtney Rejent (Fr.,
1B, Paramus, NJ) led off the third inning with a double to left center
field and later scored on a Caroline Kovach (So., OF, Tinton Falls, NJ)
sacrifice fly to left.
Liberty
responded with at least one run in each of the next three innings and
while the Knights managed just one more run before the game was called due
to darkness with Liberty ahead 7-2.
Marliese Kotrosits (Fr., RHP, Whitehall, PA) took the loss
for the Knights as she allowed four earned runs on five hits in four
innings, fanning three batters. She moved to 1-1 on the season.
The
Knights return to action on Wednesday, March 20th with a
doubleheader at Morgan State at 12:00 p.m.
