Drops Two to Monmouth, 1-0 and 7-2 HACKENSACK, NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University (7-17, 5-11 NEC) softball team dropped two games to the visiting Monmouth (15-16, 9-7 NEC) Hawks in conference action, 1-0 and 7-2. The Knights’ Nicole Farrissey (Fr., RHP, Paramus, NJ) pitched the second-year program’s first one-hitter, allowing one single in the fourth inning and walking four. With Kim Lombardi (Soph., RHP, Middletown, NJ) on base in the fourth inning through a fielder’s choice, Breanna Steins (Fr., DH, Whiting, NJ) fly out to right field was bobbled, scoring Lombardi for the Hawks’ lone run of the 1-0 shutout. On the mound, Lombardi (5-8) allowed three hits in a full seven innings for Monmouth, striking out five and walking one. Farrissey (3-7) struck out three in going the distance. Game two remained close, with the Hawks holding a 3-2 lead going into the top of the fifth where three singles and two wild pitches allowed for three more runs from Monmouth for the 6-2 advantage. The Hawks scored one more in the seventh to take the 7-2 victory. Kim Lyall (Sr., RHP, Bristol, PA) (6-4) went the distance for Monmouth, striking out five and walking one with one earned run. Jennifer Buehler (Fr., RHP, Oriskany, NY) (2-5) struck out four and walked one in four innings of work, allowing three earned runs. The Knights return to action tomorrow, Sunday April 14th when they host Long Island for a doubleheader scheduled to begin at 12 noon. *
