Softball Falls to St. Peter's 6-1 HACKENSACK, NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University (7-20) softball team dropped its last home game of the season to the visiting St. Peter’s (17-13) Peahens in a non-conference local rival matchup. St. Peter’s opened a quick 1-0 lead with their leadoff batter in the first. Nicole Melchiorre (Fr., SS, Marlton, NJ) ripped an inside-the-park home run to left center. Teresa Wilson (Soph., CF, Teaneck, NJ) helped the Peahens to a 3-0 lead with a two-rbi double in the second frame and St. Peter’s added one more in the third for a 5-0 advantage. The Knights responded in the bottom of the third with their second hit of the game. Mo O’Callahan (Soph., DH/C, Barnegat,NJ) singled and advanced to second on a passed ball. Tiffany Farhat (Fr., 2B, Paramus, NJ) had one of her two singles to advance O’Callahan to third and she later scored on a throwing error by the Peahen’s catcher who was trying to pick her off. The teams would combine for just four more hits over the next three inning, FDU getting two singles in the sixth but not able to capitalize. Lindsay Tobia (Fr., 1B, Pennsauken, NJ) added one more for St. Peter’s in the seventh when she turned fast enough to score off her single to center field on a Knight error. Sandy Attanasio (Sr., RHP, Hillsdale, NJ) pitched the first three innings for St. Peter’s, improving to 9-7 with the win having struck out three and walked none. Nicole Farrissey (Fr., RHP, Paramus, NJ) allowed five hits and four earned runs for the Knights, moving to 3-8 on the season. Lisa Kotuba (Fr., OF/P, Clifton, NJ) made her first appearance on the mound for FDU, retiring five straight batters over the sixth and seventh innings before allowing two hits and an unearned run in the seventh. FDU got two hits apiece from Tiffany Farhat and Courtney Rejent (Fr., 3B, Paramus, NJ) while St. Peter’s spread its seven hits amongst seven different players. The Knights are next in action when they travel to Robert Morris for two games on Saturday, April 20th at 1pm. The team remains in western Pennsylvania for two games at St. Francis on Sunday the 21st starting at 12 noon. A postponed Knight doubleheader at St. Peter’s has been rescheduled for Friday, April 26th at 4pm. *
