Dickinson Softball Drops Two at St. Francis (NY), 4-1 and 6-5
BROOKLYN, NY – The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball team (5-11, 3-7 NEC) dropped two conference games at St. Francis (NY) (9-13, 4-6 NEC) by scores of 4-1 and 6-5. The Terriers scored two in each of the first and second innings of game one to take a quick 4-0 lead. The Knights responded in the third when Mo O'Callahan (Barnegat, NJ) singled in Kim Farhat (Paramus, NJ) who had advanced to third on a single by sister Tiffany Farhat (Paramus, NJ). The run would be the last of the game as the teams combined for just two more hits over the remaining four innings. St. Francis won the
opener behind the pitching of Samantha Griffin, who allowed four
hits while fanning seven. Nicole
Farrissey (Paramus, NJ) takes the loss for Knights, giving up one
earned run in six innings and striking out two. St.
Francis struck first but the Knights held a 3-2 lead after the top of the
third inning of game two. O'Callahan again singled in a run to set
up a two-rbi triple by Jessi Potter (Oneonta, NY) which scored
O'Callahan and Tiffany Farhat. The Terriers responded to tie the game in
the bottom of the inning before the Kimberly Edone's
(Paramus, NJ) squeeze
bunt in the fourth allowed Anneliese Padilla (West Lynn, OR) to
score the go-ahead run, and Potter
scored Tiffany Farhat with a single in the fifth to extend the lead
to 5-3. In the bottom of the fifth the Terriers' Lisa Gentile walked with the bases loaded to force in Alex Richardson, cutting the lead to 5-4. A bobbled ground ball off the bat of Griffin allowed two runs to score, giving St. Francis the lead and eventual 6-5 win. Richardson struck out four in four relief innings to get the win for St. Francis. Jennifer Buehler (Oriskany, NY) moves to 2-3 on the season. She struck out two in six innings of work, allowing four runs. The Knights return to action on Sunday at Wagner for a doubleheader to begin at 12pm.
