Caroline Kovach Earns All-NEC Honors SOMERSET, NJ – Fairleigh Dickinson University sophomore Caroline Kovach (Tinton Falls, NJ/Monmouth Regional) earned the school’s first-ever softball All-Northeast Conference honor, as she was named a Second Team selection by a vote of the league’s head coaches. In only the second season since the Knights reinstated softball, Kovach earns second team recognition. The leftfielder started every game for the Knights, ending the season leading the team and setting new program records in batting average (.323), slugging percentage (.559), doubles (5), home runs (5) and sacrifice flies (2). She ranked second this season in hits (28) and runs batted in (14). The softball team split with St. Francis (PA) and fell to St. Peter’s last week to finish up their 2002 season. Fairleigh Dickinson improved to 8-25 overall and 6-16 in NEC action this year, after going 2-26 overall and 2-20 in league play last season. The team wrapped up the season with improvements over last year in practically every category, including a .054 increase in batting average, a 2.80 drop in ERA, 10 more home runs and 46 more runs scored. The Knights also swept their first-ever conference and non-conference opponents this season.
