Softball Picked to finish 12th in NEC Pre-Season Poll
SOMERSET,
NJ – The Fairleigh Dickinson University softball tean has been
picked to finish 12th in the Northeast Conference (NEC),
according to a poll of league head coaches.
Defending champion Long Island is the unanimous pre-season favorite
followed by Robert Morris and UMBC. In
only its second season back after a 15-year hiatus, the FDU softball
program has much to look forward to in 2002.
Head coach Bob Bruno will guide a team consisting of 15
underclassmen, including 11 newcomers.
Although the Knights will be young, a successful fall season has
raised expectations for the team, if not for the league’s head coaches. The
Knights open their season with a doubleheader at Coppin State in
Washington, D.C. on Saturday, March 16th.
After three more dates near the nation’s capitol and in Virginia,
the team returns to their home field on Saturday, March 23rd,
opening up the NEC slate with two games versus Mt. St. Mary’s beginning
at 1pm. The
2002 Knights will play their home games at field number seven in Foschini
Park in Hackensack, New Jersey, located just one-half mile from campus. *
