Welcome
Welcome to Fairleigh Dickinson University and the office of International Student Services. We offer a wide array of services to a diverse group of over 900 students from 73 nations. As the leader in Global Education, our goal is to promote a meaningful interaction with U.S students and nationals from all countries, a cultural enrichment opportunity. The office of International Student Services serves the international community of Fairleigh Dickinson University students, visiting scholars, faculty and researchers in their adjustment to all segments of campus life. Orientation programs are presented to facilitate the adjustment of international students to the American system of education and to offer insight into the cultural life of the United States. Through our immigration services, we help international students and visiting scholars maintain their status in compliance with immigration regulations. New federal regulations have been published. They have confirmed that every international student or scholar entering the United States after July 31st, 2003 must have a sevis version of their I-20 or DS-2019. Both documents look different and have a bar code on them scanned by BCIS at the airport or border crossing. If you plan to travel outside the United States, you must obtain a new I-20 or DS-2019 from International Student Services prior to your departure. Workshops at Metropolitan campus and Workshops at College of Florham on employment are given monthly to encourage compliance with federal laws and University policy. For International students we have OPT-workshops. An annual tax workshop is given in early spring to assist those students who are required to file a U.S. tax return. "Global Conversation Program" is a program that brings people together who are interested in learning about other cultures and gaining a deeper understanding of cross-cultural issues. The Global Focus is a newsletter published throughout each semester to inform international students about upcoming events, trips, activities and workshops. The Global Focus also spotlights international students for leadership, involvement on campus or outside activities. During the spring semester, an annual talent show is held that provides an opportunity for international students to perform music, dance, poetry or simply model a native costume from their home country. The university has numerous student-run organizations as well as organizations with the Student Government. Social programs are varied and include dances, comedy shows, barbecues, concerts, lectures, theatre excursions and visits to many interesting attractions in New York. Among the many traditions are Welcome Week, Welcome Back Week, Latin Heritage, Black History month, Women’s History, Multi-Cultural Week, Greek Week, Spring Fest, Diwali and Holi. We welcome all international students, visiting scholars, faculty and researchers. We look forward to serving you in our office and wish you success at Fairleigh Dickinson University. |
