Certificate Program in Nursing
Overview
Individuals who already hold the MS in Nursing may wish to consider one of the post-master’s certificate programs now offered at Fairleigh Dickinson. The Adult Nurse Practitioner Certificate can be completed in just five semesters and qualifies graduates to take the National Nurse Practitioner Examination. The Certificate in Nursing Education is designed for individuals who want to pursue a career in teaching in academic institutions or in continuing education programs in nursing. The Certificate in Nursing Administration prepares students for a variety of careers as administrators in health care institutions. Our newest certificate program, the Certificate in Nursing Information Systems, is designed for individuals wishing to combine their knowledge of computer science, information science and nursing science to assist in the management and processing of nursing data to support and improve nursing care.
All programs are available on either a full-time or part-time basis on the Teaneck campus. Applicants to a Post-MSN Certificate programs should hold a MSN degree from an accredited college or university and be eligible for licensure in New Jersey. A personal interview may also be required for admission.
Nursing Education (Post-Master's Certificate)
This 15-credit program is designed for the master's-prepared nurse who plans to be in the nurse educator role. Courses in theory for teaching, curriculum and evaluation will prepare the graduate for faculty positions in staff development, continuing education and undergraduate nursing programs.
Nursing Information Systems (Post-Master's Certificate)
This program is designed to be completed either full- or part-time with a minumum requirement of 21 credits for individuals already holding a Master of Science degree in Nursing intrested in advancing their career as nursing information system specialists.
Adult Nurse Practitioner (Post-Master's/Post-Doctoral Certificate)
This program is designed for master's or doctorally-prepared nurses who wish to expand skills in diagnosing and treating clients in a primary care setting and build upon previous nursing experience and education. Students who successfully complete this program are eligible for certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center and/or the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners and licensure for prescriptive practice by the New Jersey Board of Nursing.
