Biography
WFDU Disc Jockey, Bob Putignano is known as an important "voice" in the Blues
& Music Communities. He is also the President of The New York Blues Society, and puts
much time and effort into promoting the genre to the people of New York and neighboring
areas. What appears to be a photographic memory about music, artists, recordings and
obscure intricacies of the industry comes from the fact that you can find Bob out and
about almost anywhere at Blues and musical events all over the United States. Also, an
avid collector of music, Bob has over 10,000 LPs and thousands of CDs under his roof.
It is no small wonder that several years ago, when Bob had his first intro to radio
Broadcast as a member of WBGO, that he was able to work out a broadcast with the world
renowned Bob Porter on the program, "Portraits In Blue". After Bob became
President of the New York Blues Society, he got into contact with the "Across The
Tracks" Musical Director, Dave Grogan, in order to see how the program format, and
The New York Blues Society could work together to promote the genre. Bob began as a
substitute DJ on "Across the Tracks" in May of 2000. The rest is history.
An asset to all of Bob Putignano's radio shows are the interviews he conducts. He has
interviewed Larry Baeder, Johnnie Johnson, Dave Keyes, BB King, Tommy Castro, Gatemouth
Brown, Pinetop Perkins, Koko Taylor, Joel Dorn, Bob Porter, Calvin Owens, Son Seals,
Armand of Armand & Bluesology, Walter Wolfman Washington, Pat Cisarano, Rusty Zinn,
Kenny Neal, Bryan Lee, Terry Adams of N.R.B.Q., John Hoffman of The Blues Cruises around
Manhattan Island, Larry Garner, Sue Foley, Dennis Gruenling and others. His audiences have
been able to learn about the artists through Bob's lively interviews. What better way is
there to get to know the artists?
Stay tuned for more of Bob Putignano's radio shows, interviews and the musical treats that
he offers to his audiences. You'll be glad that you did.
