Nike missile installations within the former New York Defense Area were serviced
by three regional maintenance facilities. At these facilities routine
maintenance and repairs to radar systems, electronics,
launching equipment and missiles was performed.
Withn the New York area, the earliest facility of this type was at Miller
Field on Staten Island. However, in order to
accommodate the growing needs of the 19 Nike batteries within
this region, a new facility was opened at Camp Kilmer, NJ, during 1958.
This was followed by the construction of yet another major maintenance
facility located at North Bellmore, Long Island.
Additional information and site images will be available in the future.
