Assignments for Introduction: (Due - February 3, 2003)
  1. Find out about performing arts in your area.
    • (You are required to attend two concerts and a play during the semester. One of the concerts must feature classical music and one - jazz.)
    • There are deadlines for attending concerts and submitting your responses. Please see "Important Dates" under the "Syllabus" button.
    • If you live near the Hackensack Campus of Fairleigh Dickinson University, you can take advantage of the Performing Arts Series.
    • The Madison Campus offers the opportunity to attend plays and concerts.
    • Look on the www.fdu.edu site under calendar of events.
    • Otherwise, look on the web for sites about your town, they often include cultural activities.
    • Remember - All concerts and plays must be preapproved by me.
  2. Find an art museum in your area
  3. Discussion Board
    Introduce yourself to the class.
    Be sure to mention:
    • Where you live and where you can attend concerts, see a play, and what art museum is closest to you.
    • What kind of music you like. (Include a link to a web site where we can all listen to your favorite music)
    • What kinds of art you like. (If you aren't sure - don't worry)
    • Are you involved in the arts in any way?
    • Please feel free to talk to each other in the discussion board. You might meet someone who:
      • lives near you
      • likes the same music as you
      • can go with you to concerts, the play, the art museum
    • This assignment is very important. You must plan ahead. So many students find themselves in a bind at the end of the semester because they did not use this first week to investigate options - where they could see a play, where they could go to concerts, what museum would they like to visit? You cannot pass the course without fulfilling these requirements.
