Dr. Peter Sammartino and his wife Sally (Scaramelli) are regarded rightly as the founders of Fairleigh Dickinson University. They worked together so closely that he said that they almost had a telepathic connection. On one occasion, in the midst of an extemporaneous speech, and without warning, Dr. Sammartino stopped: he explained that Sally knew their work so well that she could finish his speech. He sat down, and with no further prompting, his wife arose and completed the address.
