Hippie Facts

A hippie is defined in the dictionary as: "A person who opposes and rejects many of the conventional standards and customs of society, especially one who advocates extreme liberalism in sociopolitical attitudes and lifestyles." However, I think that hippies are much more than that. Hippies instill a sense of freedom and world-wide unity. Although some of their traditions included burning bras, not shaving, not showering, and walking around unclothed it was not all they were about. These people believed in freedom and marching to the beat of your own drum. It is too bad that today individualism is not something that is embraced as it once was.

Hippies were originally part of a youth movement that being in the United States who opposed established institutions and the conservatism that was the middle-class custom at the time. Their hopes were to spread peace and freedom throughout their world and to eventually have peace throughout the entire world. Many songs were created by famous musicians during that time some of the most famous being Imagine by John Lennon and All You Need Is Love by the Beatles. These creative artists and daring individuals shaped what is today known as the Hippie movement.
