Coincidence? I think not...
I taught at the Durrell School of Corfu in the summer of 2002. Here's a photo of our rather informal final session, sitting outside the Faliraki (where classes were held) with the Old Fortress in the background:
The Faliraki in Corfu Town (LEFT), Corfu Greece. This is where I delivered a paper for OMG XI, conference of the International Lawrence Durrell Society. Just above the Faliraki, overlooking it, is the Corfu Reading Society (RIGHT), where several of the session for OMG XI were held. The Reading Society is Greece's oldest functioning library. Both sites are integral to the Durrell School of Corfu's summer programmes. - - - ![]() The Shrine of Saint Arsenius is where several of us swam during one of the conference tours (BELOW), this was a site particularly well described in Lawrence Durrell's Prospero's Cell and "Oil for the Saint," hence the tour (and yes, the water was wonderful!). This is a place I am sure I will return to (UPDATE: I have gone back each summer and look forward to the next): ![]() Also, here's a photo of me at the New Fortress, up on top in the citadel, with the Old Fortress over my shoulder on the other side of Corfu Town. You can also see the Venetian Clock Tower:
I also spent some time at the Victoria Conservatory of Music, studying opera in the Opera Studio, and taking private vocal coachings. Here are some photos of the Conservatory's beautiful new home, the former Metropolitan Church on Pandora (LEFT) and the Alex Goolden Hall (RIGHT):

To go with the opera studio, here are some photos of opera scenes. First is a photo from the VCM production of the Beggar’s Opera by John Gay. This is Matt of the Mint (me) and Polly Peachum (Erin Bardua) (LEFT). I have also done the role of Grandpa Moss in Aaron Copland’s The Tender Land for the University of Alberta Opera Workshop. This is a family scene at the graduation party: Laurie Moss (Raven Borstad), Ma Moss (Lesley Foster) and Grandpa Moss (James Gifford) (CENTRE). Most recently, I am appearing as Sarastro in a production of Mozart's The Magic Flute (LEFT):

I'm also included some photos from a recent opera through NUOVA (Newly United Opera Vocalists Association) in Edmonton. This is from the final choral scene in a production of Menotti's satiric Amelia Goes To The Ball. I'm also adding a photo from a recent production of Mozart's The Magic Flute, for which I was Priest I (and ensemble work). This is me and Pamina (Sarah Waters) (LEFT) :
I also don't scan photos I've taken myself, so as a rarety, here's the view from my apartment at a particularly early hour:
