The National Parks in Taiwan was established according to the first and sixth clause of the National Park Laws.  Its aim was to protect and preserve unique natural sceneries, wildlife, and historical sites in the national parks and to provide people with a place of education, recreation, and research.

Therefore, national parks should equip with three goals: preservation, education and recreation,
research.  In terms of characteristics and management methods, national parks had four functions:

  1. To provide protective natural environment

  2. To preserve species and inheritable genetics

  3. To furnish national recreation and thrive local economy

  4. To promote academic researches and environmental education
